Bio Sci D111L, Lab 7 – Genetics, Developmental & Cell Biology, and Biomedical Engineering: Premedical majors
Bio Sci E166L – Ecology & Evolutionary Biology majors
Bio Sci M114L, Lab 5 – Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Microbiology & Immunology majors
Bio Sci M116L, Lab 3 – Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Microbiology & Immunology majors
Bio Sci M118L, Lab 9 – Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Microbiology & Immunology majors

On July 27th at noon all lab sections will become available to the rest of the graduating senior priority group.

Please see our “When will I be able to enroll in labs?” section to check when additional lab restrictions will lift.

Who is part of the graduating senior priority group for labs?

For lab enrollment, we prioritize School of Bio Sci students who are closest to graduation, which we group under the following graduating senior priority group:

Fall 2023 (or earlier) freshmen
Fall 2025 (or earlier) transfer students
Any Dunlop School of Biological Sciences student with a REASONABLE graduation application on file

At the beginning on Week 7 (May 11th), these students will automatically be pre-cleared for all the labs they meet the prerequisites for.

How do I know if I have a graduation application on file?

You can see if you have a graduation application by going to StudentAccess → Applications → Graduation.

For priority lab enrollment, your application status must read EITHER “pending” or “received”.

How do I check which labs I have been cleared for?

If you are part of the graduating senior priority group, you will automatically be pre-approved for all the labs you meet the prerequisites for at the beginning on Week 7 (May 11th).

You can check lab clearances by going to StudentAccess → Student Profile → Enrollment → Course Eligibilities.

If you believe you should have access to a lab that does not appear on your course eligibility list, email biosciadvising@uci.edu at least 2 business days BEFORE your enrollment window.

When and how do I submit a graduation application for labs?

Due to the high demand for upper-division labs, we recommend students submit their graduation applications 1 year in advance.

You can submit your graduation application on StudentAccess → Applications → Graduation.

I didn’t know I needed to submit my graduation application before the start of enrollment. Will I still be cleared for labs?

If you meet all other criteria to be considered part of the “senior priority group” and submit your graduation application AFTER the start of enrollment, lab clearances will take 2-3 business days to process. You will receive an email once your lab clearances have been added.

If you are NOT part of the “senior priority group”, please see our “When will I be able to enroll in labs?” section to check when lab restrictions will lift.

I meet the prerequisites because of a class I took outside UC Irvine. Why can’t I enroll?

The enrollment system does not automatically read courses taken outside UC Irvine. If you are trying to enroll in a Bio Sci course, please fill out the Bio Course Prerequisite Clearance Form. We will process your request within 3 business days. For non-Bio courses, you need to contact the academic unit offering the course.

BEFORE submitting the form please check your eligibility:

  • Dunlop School of Bio Sci transfer students have been proactively cleared for all Bio Sci courses they meet the prerequisites for and do NOT need to submit the form
  • Some sections are restricted for specialized majors or have repeat restrictions. Check out the rest of our Enrollment FAQs to see when those restrictions may lift

When will repeat restrictions lift?

Repeat restrictions for all Bio Sci courses will lift on September 1st at noon.

When will the 18-unit enrollment restriction lift?

The enrollment unit limit will switch from 18 to 20 units on September 1st at noon.

Can I take two courses with overlapping meeting times?

Bio Sci will NOT allow students to enroll in classes with overlapping meeting times, regardless of instructor approval. Students should also ensure they do not enroll in classes with overlapping final exam periods.

Should I contact the instructor for enrollment help with a Bio Sci class?

No, No, enrollment is managed centrally by Bio Sci Undergraduate Student Affairs and individual instructors cannot provide enrollment support (unless otherwise noted in the course comment box on the Schedule of Classes).
