Welcome to the School of Biological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine!

We are delighted that you will join our amazing community of UCI Anteaters here in BioSci. Our goal in the Undergraduate Student Affairs office is to make sure all of our students can succeed in their academic journey. That starts from the beginning with new student advising. Please read the information below to learn about summer advising and prepare for a successful Fall quarter!

You’ve been admitted to UCI, what should you do next?

To learn about UCI Bio Sci join us at UCI Celebrate on Saturday, April 20th.

If you have SIRed please submit your Statement of Legal Residence (SLR) to UCI by the deadline.  You can also find DATES & DEADLINES here.

Getting Started

As a new Anteater, there are a few administrative tasks to complete to prepare for summer orientation and advising. Please read this list carefully, and make sure that you complete these tasks as soon as you can after submitting your positive Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) at UCI.

  1. Activate your UCINetID
Your UCINetID will be your login for all UCI accounts, so it’s important to set it up ASAP.
  2. Enroll in DUO
All UCI students must enroll in the DUO multi-factor authentication and use this app to access UCI accounts. It’s very important to enroll in DUO as soon as you activate your UCINetID to avoid issues logging into your record or accessing your email.
  3. Set up your UCI Gmail account
After activating your UCINetID, you can set up your UCI Gmail. Visit Gmail.com, input your UCI email address (UCInetID@uci.edu), then login with your UCINetID and password. We’ll use only your UCI email address for all future emails.
  4. Submit all transcripts, test scores, etc. to Admissions
The deadline to submit all documents to Admissions is July 1st! Review the Checklist in your Applicant Portal to ensure all your documents and scores are submitted prior to the deadline — missing these deadlines could lead to a hold on your student record and prevent enrollment in Fall classes!

Important Reminders

Visit your Applicant Portal frequently for important messages and updates from the UCI Office of Admissions!

Once you have activated your UCI Gmail account, check your UCI student email regularly! All future emails from our office will be sent directly to your UCI student email.

New Freshmen Students

As an incoming freshman, you must attend orientation session this summer, also known as SPOP (Student Parent Orientation Program)! In-person SPOP is mandatory for all new freshman. You should have already received an email from orientation@uci.edu regarding how to register for SPOP.

Click the button below for more details about the first-year orientation programs:

Prepare for your fall courses:

● If you plan to take summer courses, DO NOT take Biology 93, 93L, 94, 94L  or Chemistry. These are part of your first-year Bio Sci curriculum and should be taken at UCI. We recommend GE courses if you want to take summer classes.

● Though UCI does not require test scores for admission, SAT and ACT scores can be used for placement into Chemistry. If you do not have test scores that place you into Chemistry, you must take the UCI Chemistry Placement – Canvas Quiz. Read the Chem placement instructions carefully.

New International Freshman Students

You will sign up for and attend ISPOP plus a separate advising session with Sherry Ong (ongsh@uci.edu), our Bio Sci International Student Advisor. Look for Sherry’s email in mid-June with your advising date and sign up for ISPOP.

Welcome to UCI and the School of Biological Sciences!

Incoming transfer students who have submitted their SIR will receive a welcome email from our office with detailed instructions for in-person advising and Fall enrollment AFTER the June 1st SIR deadline.
