He brings more than two decades of experience in healthcare investing and research\, and currently leads RTW’s medical technology investment strategy. In addition to serving on the boards of several medtech companies and on the Dean’s Leadership Council\, he is also a co-founder of Rocket Pharmaceuticals\, a clinical-stage gene therapy company. He is an authority in identifying and cultivating transformative opportunities across medical devices\, instruments & tools\, diagnostics\, and digital health. Naveen serves as a board member of several innovative healthcare and medical technology companies\, and he is also the co-founder of Rocket Pharmaceuticals\, a clinical-stage gene therapy company. Prior to RTW\, Naveen was Vice President and Co-Portfolio Manager at Black Capital. Earlier in his career\, he held senior healthcare investment roles at Millennium Management and Davidson Kempner Capital Management. Naveen graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BS in Biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He currently serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the UCI School of Medicine and Director of Outpatient Perinatal Services at Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Orange. He is also the Co-Director of UCI’s new Space MED Program\, a mission-driven initiative preparing students to explore the future of human spaceflight and healthcare. \n\n\n\nShow more\n\n\n\nWe’re excited to welcome Dr. Jonathan Steller as our guest speaker for this quarter’s Donuts with the Dean. Dr. Steller is a physician scientist specializing in maternal-fetal medicine\, a proud triple UCI alum\, and an emerging leader in the field of space medicine. He is also the Co-Director of UCI’s new Space MED Program\, a mission-driven initiative preparing students to explore the future of human spaceflight and healthcare.Dr. Steller has held leadership roles at NASA and currently serves on the VAST Space medicine team\, where he leads efforts in systems medicine\, exercise physiology\, and women’s health. His research and professional work are redefining what’s possible in reproductive health both on Earth and beyond.After completing his undergraduate degrees\, medical degree\, and OBGYN residency all at UCI\, he completed his fellowship training at the University of Colorado\, where his graduating thesis was the first ever study investigating the effects of a space radiation analog on pregnancy outcomes in mice. Presently\, he continues to perform research pushing the boundaries of space gynecology and reproductive health. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications\, systematic reviews\, textbook chapters\, and is an international authority in this space. Dr. Steller previously served for six years at NASA within the Exploration Medical Capabilities Element and the Human Standards Team in the Office of the Chief Health and Medical Officer (OCHMO). In these roles\, he developed extensive expertise in systems engineering\, medical modeling\, probabilistic risk assessment\, tradespace analysis\, and the development of medical selection\, recertification\, and mission evaluation standards. He currently serves as Deputy Chair of Programming for the Organization of Space Medicine\, Engineering\, and Design (OSMED) and as Co-Director of the UCI Space MED Program—a brand new four-year mission-based program at the UCI School of Medicine enabling nascent students to explore the field of space medicine\, gain foundational space medicine knowledge\, and empowering them to identify unmet needs\, ideate novel ideas\, and innovate systems to promote human space exploration. Dr. Steller is also a member of the Vast Space Medicine team\, where he provides domain leadership in systems medicine\, exercise countermeasures\, and women’s health and spends the rest of his time as one of UCI’s clinical MFMs at the School of Medicine\, the Director of Outpatient Perinatal Services at St. Joseph\, and one of UCI’s Deans Scholars. \n\n\n\nShow less\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister to attend Donuts with the Dean

If you are not part of this group\, please refrain from registering. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker:\n\n\n\n\nChris Lay \n\n\n\n\nChristopher (Chris) Lay is a Founding Partner at Leonid Capital Partners\, an investment fund whose objective is to support US National Security\, Intelligence\, and Space entrepreneurs. His background includes professional practice in the Healthcare\, Financial Services\, Technology\, and Specialty Finance industries\, as well as significant experience operating in Private Equity and Hedge Fund investment environments. \n\n\n\nShow more\n\n\n\nChristopher (Chris) Lay is a Founding Partner at Leonid Capital Partners\, an investment fund whose objective is to support US National Security\, Intelligence\, and Space entrepreneurs. His background includes professional practice in the Healthcare\, Financial Services\, Technology\, and Specialty Finance industries\, as well as significant experience operating in Private Equity and Hedge Fund investment environments. Prior to his work as a financial services professional\, Chris accumulated 15 years of experience in neuroscience. His most notable achievements in this realm include therapeutic drug monitoring at The Scripps Research Institute and fundamental research in ischemic stroke at the University of California. Chris earned his Ph.D. in Neurobiology from the University of California\, Irvine\, and his  MBA from the University of Southern California\, Marshall School of Business.
